Same thing happened to mine, and I've yet to get it to read
properly with the gage. Same deal on my '65 dodge too. The '65
came with a "spare" sender in the toolbox, also burnt out. It
amazes me that a wire with electricity going through it can break
inside a gas tank without the whole truck going up in a giant
fireball. I fixed the same thing in a friend's VW bug back in
college. Seems like a common occurrence. So here we have all these
fuel sender wires breaking (and presumably sparking) inside of gas
tanks yet vehicles never blow up. I can't figure it. And then
the NTSB comes out at says the TWA 800 747 blew up in the air because
of a spark from a fuel level sender. And jet fuel isn't near as
explosive as gasoline. But I digresss...
