Just as a data point, my brother and I plowed snow in Western PA in the 1960's with a 4 cyl International Scout and a Meyers blade/lift (no auto angle control).

A fair amount of this work was done in the dark using aux lights (not very bright). We probably didn't run the rig more than a couple of hours a night, and didn't have many big (parking lot) jobs.

I don't recall any battery/charging problems that didn't go away in a couple of minutes. of idling. The difference that comes to mind is that these were 'old tech' batteries (made locally in New Castle, PA) and probably more forgiving as storage devices) than the current crop. (We bought the Scout used, and I don't know the charging system specs, but I think it was stock).
