After reading the horror stories I realize how blessed I am to live in Alaska. That being said it's a sad joke up here that the individual wealth of an Alaskan is determined by the amount of junk and trash pile in his front yard. Don't even think about talking to them about it as this is the last frontier! We have 7 lots on the other side of the airfield we own, but I refuse to part them out for that very reason. I'd hate to look out our picture window and look at a trash dump or dog yard instead of the majestic view of the Alaska Range mountains. So everything in moderation. I know it's a touchy subject, but in a town environment it's probably not a totally bad thing to prevent a junk yard from springing up next door. As long as a couple or even a few vehicles are parked neatly and not covered with trash and other debris I see no harm in having them there. It's when it turns into something like a salvage yard that it's gotten out of hand. Unfortunately the folks who have preceeded you (or perhaps even you)have caused the problem. If everyone had kept a nice clean yard to begin with there probably wouldn't have been a need for covenants or rules to keep things clean. Some of the lower forty eight states have some dragonian rules, but a fellow can always move to a location more in keeping with his preferences. Just my two cents worth.
