My York air conditioning compressor would fill my 2 gal reciever tank in roughly 45 seconds, would run 1/2 air gun at whatever pressure the system would handle (my Pressure switch was set to shut off @ 140PSI)
Idle was usually fast enough to air up the tires (continuous duty required a little more RPM) Most of the time the compressor only needs to fill the tank for the lockers (45 seconds) or idle the engine when airing up tires, either way would not detract from overall performance that much (never did seem like a big deal to me). Compressor run time for an entire trip would maybe be 10 minutes.

I would however recommend that anyone mounting a York look at the Obiwan offroad site and print off the instructions for the "oil resevoir mod" which cuts down on the oil and condensation accumulation in your reciever tank (air tools, tires, and blow guns, don't seem to mind it, but an ARB might be another $tory)

I'm currently running a Chrysler RV2 on my 318 conversion which I think is one of the slickest setups out there!! Looks cool and I believe is just a touch faster than the York. Also more plentiful and cheaper than the York (in my area anyway) I think the total cost of my system (compressor, pressure switch, tank, fittings and hose) was around $75.

One of the guys in the local offroad club has one of the twelve volt comps. from ARB, and quite frankly I was really surprised that ARB would put thier label on it. In my experience ARB BUILDS QUALITY STUFF, but I would be really disappointed if I paid that much for that caliber of compressor.

Probably the slickest 12v setup I've seen, was a York mounted on a small tank, coupled to a starter??? motor with a pressure swith. The guy has a couple offroad toys, and said he didn't want to have to spend out money on two different compressors, and he couldn't find a good portable 12v unit, he liked so he built one that he could move from truck to truck. The tank, and neat little rollcage/handle was built out of aluminum. The whole unit probably didn't wiegh 50lbs. I watched them reseat the bead on a 35/14.50/15 with it. I suspect that it would only run a 1/2" gun for short bursts though, as the tank was probably only a little over a gallon, and the little electric motor didn't turn over that fast.
