Yup, true.
I chose the 3rd Gen engine for my W500 for noise reasons. I didn't want to carpet or insulate the interior/firewall & I figured a 1st or Second Gen in that big tin can would be unbearable. I have no regrets but for reliability...any 6BT with a P7100 injection pump would be my pick.
