12 or 24v w/#53 block = cracked block
pre 97 = no cat
5 sp + 5th gear nut problem
auto=weak
killer dowel pin (pin falls out and ruins your front engine case)
Death wobble (I guess this is a coil spring strait front axle problem on lots of 4x's, no fun)

You can fix the 5sp with an upgrade
you can fix the auto for $4000
get rid of the dodge starter contacts and put in some cummins ones, same with the fuel shut off solenoid
Mine, 97 4x4 has been reliable since new and owes me nothing with only a fuel shutoff solenoid and a starter fix, dowel pin fix and an adjustable track bar to cure the death wobble. trans is weak at 130k miles (Auto) and I'll spend the $4000 on a new one when I have to. better you buy one already fixed with a "known builder" trans and converter.
I was to do it again it would be a 2wd 5sp dually 96 ex-cab
you can read up on all this at DTR(free) versus TDR(Pay)
