you can have a one wire alternator 'fixed' at a good alternator shop to kick in at the low rpm band that our flatheads utilize. i got a kit from vintage power wagons (just the brackets and hardware) and then got my alt shop to make up an alternator for my command car. i wired it through the amp gauge to keep its function. works great. i did not want to hack into the body harnesses so this setup was ideal for me.

btw - the vintage kit needed a custom spacer which i made to correct the belt geometry when i added helitool ps pump. adding ps with the orig monster 12v wc 3/4 generator was not an option.
