One of the main reasons to use a snipe service is if you're on dial-up. You set up the snipe ahead of time and their fast server sends it in at the last minute.

My bigger complaint about ebay when it comes to dialup connections is that their pages get more and more bloated with garbage that takes forever to load. Every time they "improve" their site, it slows down a little more. I use dialup at home and high-speed at the office, so I see the effect.

I also agree that what they consider an "auction" isn't a real auction. I've never been to a real auction where the auctioneer stopped the bidding at a certain arbitrary time even if the bidding was active. I don't know what you call ebay's system, but it's not an auction. It presumably works to the seller's disadvantage. Whether it works to the buyer's advantage or not is debatable.
