Jim,

Don't mean to gain up on you, but this was discussed on the forum, recently.

Good for Ebay for pulling your add. Once you list on ebay you should see the auction through and sell to the highest bidder (if the reserve is met). People playing games with listings is one of the biggest issues that users of Ebay face. It is about time that they crack down on the people that are using the "listed locally" disclaimer.

Having sold a ton of stuff on Ebay, I have learned that it is a bad idea to end early, anyway. Most of the action is in the last 5 minutes on 9 out of 10 auctions. Use an appropriate reserve and sit out the local market for 5-10 days.

I recently sold an outboard motor on ebay (25 hp Tohatsu) that was left over from my Baja Expedition. I paid $725, used, two years ago. I tried to sell it for $500 locally - no buyers. I threw it on Ebay and in 5 days the auction ran up to $1500. Little did I know that the older 2-strokes are commanding a premium in today's market. The heavier 4-strokes don't work for everyone's application. One of many examples.

Ebay works well for some things. If you decide to give it a try - then commit and stick it through the duration.

Good luck with your auction.

Dan
