yes that will help but the main problem is moisture always finds it way to the bottom. i use a water resistant grease for boat trailer bearings. my fav is pennzoil marine. pack as much grease as possible into the bearing and bushing cavities and assemble and shim as ness.
new felt strips at the knuckle will help keep out small game and rodents and sum moisture. use a paint stick and pack the knuckle cavity about a 1/3 full and make sure to geta lot of grease in the axle tube bushing/seal area.insert the axle and tracta joint and fill the rest of the knuckle cavity using the paint stick. i fill it leaving just enough room to get the spindle on without making a mess. most of the marine grease will be reusable if you ever have to take it apart again. just dig it out with a paint stick and reuse. BB
