So, it could well be that this float floated fine until we started having to use gasahol. Maybe dipping it in bee's wax would work. Nothing seems to dissolve bee's wax. Gas will dissolve paraffin slowly, so I don't think that would be good.
I wonder if there's some modern gasoline- and alcohol-proof substance substance like a closed-cell polyethylene foam that would work better. Obviously styrofoam would dissolve, and most foam rubber would just be a sponge, but there must be something that would work.
