The recessed hold downs would work fine. They will require a good sized hole, but the flange around its perimeter is where you will get your holding power, same as the big washer.
I think its a great idea. Chris Case will probably chime in with pictures of the ones he used. They looked nice.
How are the 4 legged Christmas tree pruners doing this year?
