I doubt very few of the general public know what the UAW labor rates, contributions, and work rules are. Typical people are just looking for someone else to blame, buying into the corporate brain washing. Hey, lets all go by private jet to Washington and ask for the people’s money, and when that doesn't work we'll shoulder the blame on the hourly wage earner. Good plan.
When you say pull the union plug is it your opinion that people who build cars, or other working class American factory workers, the ones that are left, are not entitled to a livable wage which includes medical insurance, retirement, and safe working conditions? These are some of the last good jobs left in America today and only because of the UAW's strength in bargaining are they still here.
The President does not have the power to force negotiations as the Taft-Harley Act, which is commonly used, does not apply in this instance. There is no requirement for negotiations as the labor agreements are not expiring. At any time the auto makers want to discharge their labor agreements through the bankruptcy courts they can do so, as witnessed recently with the airlines. Maybe at that time the venture capitalists can get a better return on their investment, or break the companies up and sell off the assets. Thats the true American way.
