Thanks Howard. I was asleep at the switch with that question.
Getrag had a few failures back in the early '90's with their first attempt at putting a manual trans behind the Cummins and their products were subsequently dropped by Dodge. After much product development and probably because of their relationship with Daimler, Getrag was once again given a contract for both the Dodge 6 speed and the Jeep 6 speed.
Both appear to be working fine, a tad quieter than the New Venture units that they replaced, a bit "bulkier" shifting initially but they also seem to smooth out with age.
My preference is the 6 speed Aisin automatic behind the Cummins, but for the 15% who still buy manual transmissions, they seem to work fine.
Since the dismantling of New Venture Gear (the old New Process Gear division of Dodge) the usage of manuals is being phased out. I do not think that either Ford or GM will offer a manual trans next year, that makes Dodge the only game in town for a solid front axle and a manual transmission.
I'd call that a good move by Dodge, but the regulators in Washington see it as another sign that Dodge is too old fashioned to remain a viable company.....= (
