Fuel flow on my 49 Power Wagon

My new 49 Power Wagon starts quick and runs good with the choke on full at start up. Then after about 30 seconds it starts to get rough and I can adjust the choke to about half and it starts to idle real smooth. But then after about 1 to 2 minutes it dies. I can keep it running by pulling it back to full choke and then kind of back and forth. But the longer I do this the more it seems to want to die. I am thinking that its starving for fuel. It has an electronic fuel pump that is bypassing the original fuel pump. I have taken the carb off and taken a look in the bowl and at the jets and needle valve and all seems clean and in good shape. I have just received the shop manual and was going to do a rebuild on the carb and start going through the adjustments. But the electronic fuel pump mounted on the frame rail has me wondering if thats not part of the problem. Could it be to much pressure or not enough? Since I am new to these motors and their quirks I figured I would see if there is anything that would be suggested as a first thing to check. Should I get rid of the electronic fuel pump and rebuild the original that is still on the motor? Is the carb and its adjustments straight forward or are there things that are not covered in the manual that might have me chasing my tail on trying to keep it running by making adjustments to the carb? I hesitated to ask these simple questions but then I remembered the old saying "There are no dumb questions" And I might get some info that will save me a day or two of trouble shooting.
