Mil vs civvy crankshaft pulleys

Now I'm really confused. I went to take the crankshaft pulley off of what I've decided must be a civilian 230 somebody swapped into my ambulance, and there are no bolts holding it on! The pulley I took off of a spare military 230 was held onto the end of the crank by 6 1/4-28 bolts that go through a thin cup that might be an oil slinger. The pulley has a large central hole that clears the hand-crank nut. I can't look directly at the end of the civilian engine because the radiator's still in, and I can't see through the crank hole in the radiator because the winch is in the way, but when I feel down in there, I feel two holes in the crank pulley, and no bolts or not. What holds it on? I've also concluded that I'd have to swap the timing chain covers as well, because the timing pointer is positioned to fit the smaller civilian pulley.

On the one hand, all I'd have left to take apart to get to it is the radiator and motor mounts, since I have the fan and water pump off, but I'm snowed out of where I have the parts trucks, and I'm wondering how necessary it is to use the bigger (military) pulley. The only way to find out is to put it all back together and see if the generator generates.
