For reference, I think traction aiding differentials first appeard in the early 1960's as available for the WDX-WM300 style Power-Wagon. I'll have to look through my literature. I believe these were Detroit Lockers. They probably would have been available earlier, if not through the dealer, from the manufacturer.

I know a local Power-Wagon owner who has two sets. Not much to look at. The case looks pretty much like a solid chunk of steel from the outside. Front and rear are definately interchangeable. Anything that will fit in one, will fit in the other.
