I have one of the little black boxes that reads rpm and total hours for a tractor or truck. This thing has a red wire that wraps around a spark plug wire and a white wire. Costs about $45

What does the white wire attach to?

I took mine off because it was not working and I assumed it was a dead battery. These are not intended to be replaced but I think you could. They use a 3 volt button-type battery.

Anyway, I must have inadvertantly pulled the white wire off from whatever it was attached to. I would assume this would be to the ignition switch to give power when the ignition is on. But there is no ground and the thing has its own battery...so what does the white wire do?

I'd like to put the thing back on since the reason it may not be working is the white wire not being attached...just don't remember where it went.
