There's sheet-metal duct nipple that goes through the knockout on the driver's side of the cab near the top of the door. To connect the two, a short piece of flexible hose makes the 90 degree bend. For other trucks, I've used rubberized cloth hose just like the original, rather than dryer vent hose. I think dryer vent hose would be way too thin and fragile. It barely holds up on a dryer. Any decent industrial hose place (I go to House of Hose here) should have the right stuff. It's pretty much the same as what they originally used.

If you need instructions, I have a manual I can copy for you.

I tend to agree that if it's going to be a beater off-road truck, better to put a mutt heater in it than risk wrecking a valuable (~$500) NOS M37 fender heater. That said, I bought a mutt heater for my M37 and never have gotten around to putting it in because it looks like any way I arrange it, it'll be a really mickey-mouse job, especially trying to make any sort of defroster work, which is the main reason to have it. I can keep myself warm with a jackeet, but I'd like the defroster to keep the windshield clear.
