Kaegi,

I know I have read articles about almost every brand where people said there was a cover-up of a major problem, and nothing ever got done.

How about the 5th gear nut on NV4500s? The lift pump on 1998 1/2 to 2002 5.9 Rams? I know the 5th gear nut was covered if it went bad under warranty, but after that you were out of luck, even though it was a major problem that happened way to often. How about dead injection pumps caused by the bad lift pump design, did Chrysler hand out new pumps in 2000 after the 100,000 mile warranty was up? Nope. Maybe they did later, I don't know, but they did not for several years. I could make up a partial list of problems just with the 1994-2002 Rams, and some were covered by Chrysler, others were not.

I have a hard time accepting that ONLY the Japanese sweep problems under the rug, and claim problems are not their fault. I hear/read/see that sort of thing from all different brands.

A quick Google search would most likely find 100s and 100s of different problems that multiple people have, and they are getting little to no satisfaction from the dealer.

I myself have had to do some fancy talking to get items fixed under warranty that should have been fixed without question, it is not brand specific, it seems to be SOP for many (obviously not all) dealers.

For every example you give of a Japanese company sweeping a problem under the rug, I bet I could find a American company doing something close to the same, or worse. Remember we have over 100 years of car production under our belts, things were done wrong from time to time.

Cars are complex items, and sometimes it is hard to know how things will work in the real world.

Eric
