Asian car companies have mastered the hiding of recalls. the largest recall in automotvie history I think still stands as the Nissan van that you wont see because they bought them all back in the 80s. Mitsubishi did not announce any recalls for 20 years and got cought and almost driven out of the cournty for massive illegal actions. At one point they did not even have a dealer in WA state. but they were unfortunately saved by Chrysler who I heard has now sold off most their interest in the company due to continuued corruption problems. American vehicle in my experience mostly are as good or better than naything else after about 1990. I gave away a 92 buick park ave with 209K and it ran grerat, had no rips in the interior and still runs today. Our 03 Neon got crashed but ran perfect at 185K had one transmission. Acura and Honda automatics fail regularly at similar mileages as the neon autos. I think the indoctrination of people runs deep with falsehoods about alleged superior imports. toyota has had numerous recalls in the last 10 years in the 100s of thousands of vehicles. but it doesn;t get plastered ont he news for 2 weeks like when one of the big three has a recall.
