Well, I tell you, I'm opposed to this as a basic philosophy, and I wrote Mr. Nardelli this:
"I am against any "loan" until a better business plan is presented. Since Mr. Nardelli wants to call it a loan...and it is American Taxpayer money (as is ALL government monies) and since I am a taxpayer, I'd like to see what ANY lending bank would want to see, a workable lending plan, a business plan on how the money will be used to generate profits and a payment schedule.
What vehicles will be built with our money?
What power trains will be built with our money?
What customer input will be used to spend our money?
Will our money be used to build vehicles that we really don't care to buy?
Will we see bio diesel?
Will we see more capable Jeeps?
Will we see a small compact car made in America?
Will we see the Phoenix engines?
Will we see the dual clutch transmission?
Will we see lobbying for tax breaks (similar to IRS rule179) for consumers who buy USA built vehicles?
I think we need to know these things.
A 2 million jobs loss would be a terrible thing, but my industry, construction, has already lost 3 million jobs.
I want Chrysler to succeed, but I want a Chrysler that CAN succeed"

Unfortunately the reality is this: with the feds giving away money willy nilly to those who don't deserve it, why not Chrysler. If the automakers fail, we will pay these billions and more, when we are forced to take over the pensions and legacy costs. Pay now and get an auto industry, pay more later and get nothing, a bad choice indeed.
