Funny you should say something Chris. I had a similar thought as I laid in the hospital after this last surgery. My son sat by my side and said "Dad, you've always put your back into your living, I guess you'll have another scar to prove it".
It's just like the PW owner who chooses to leave the scars on his old truck...the scars that tell the story of it. Most of us would proudly display our scars knowing that scars are only unsightly to those who have never earned one. They tell the story of our life. To me it's not necessarily machoism, but there is certainly something different about us.
