Ed, there should be a groove on the pulley for T.D.C. (top dead center), put a little chalk line in the groove. Loosen the distributor to the where you can move it but not moving on it's own if you know what I mean. Start the engine and point the timing light as perpendicular to the pointer as you can get it. The book says it should be set at T.D.C. but I advanced mine about 5 deg. you can tell if your advancing if the motor's R.P.M. speeds up. I think if you turn the dist. counter clock wise that's advancing. Play with the timing to see where it runs best for you and then paint a thin line on the pulley where the timing should be. Nort
