As I recall, the most advanced one is 5 degree, then zero, then 2 after, then 5 after.

Try it at about 5 advanced, or a bit more. Then test drive- it should run strong without pinging. Get it to run good, then check it again with the light and right it down. You'll want to be able to re-set every time you change point, or even to make up for points wear. And, removing the distributor makes it lots easier to change points too.

Try to look perpendicular to the pointer, that's a bit off to one side. I stand on a crate between bumper and fender (winch model) or on the bumper for non-winch.

Don't stick anything into the spinning fan, you might need it later.
