Yes, the new visitor center is controversial. IMO, it is great for schoolkids ardpeople who are "new" to the Ciil War or the battle. But to buffs like me and others, it comes up short. They have much fewer artifacts, for example, than the old center. The Wall of Faces has also been cut back and reduced.
The new focus by the NPS is the social/political aspects of the War and the Battle, not so much "the battle". It is said by many to be a "politically correct" statement at the new center compared to the tradtional way of simply telling the story of the battle by the artifacts and soldiers who experienced it, and the military strategy.
