PW distributor question

I started the engine swap on my M37 today, got the engine out and on the shop floor and the "new" engine out of storage and sitting next to it.
The engine that I removed was a Plymouth engine, the one going back in is a T-137 engine. The M37 has been converted to 12 volts so a lot of the engine accessories are not military.
I was going through my pile of distributors, looking for a decent one to put in, wanting the correct "Splashproof" distributor. I noticed that I had several Splashproof ones without vacuum advance and several splashproof ones with vacuum advance. What are the pros and cons of one versus the other. This thuck is being set up as a woods truck so simplicity and reliability are key. I am also trying to do it with parts on hand as much as possible, so electronic ignition is out.
Thanks in advance for your opinions,
Tim
