Arthur:

not looking to pick, but you posted a w/o/t post here i assume to get responses / opinions.

Why would you use a freight company for a sensitive one of a kind electronics move and expect blanket wrap service? their cheap rates and limited liability policies (to keep their rates low) should indicate to you that you are taking a big risk to get a cheap price vs blanket wrap electronics van transport which is what your move really required. If the company had quoted you 3x the rate to insure your product at a quoted and agreed value, you'd likely be inclined to hire the right professional service.

im NOT defending Estes at all and im sure they are as terrible as you say, but your situation is similar to customers who pay .40 cents per month to store a box of corporate records. if the box gets lost the customer wants $1,000,000 because the items contained that much valuable info. When offered document scanning service or archival (vault level)climate controlled storage at the time of sale, they state it is too expensive. 1 millon dollar risk / .40 a box is not a good business proposition for anyone and responsibility for the lost box accordingly is .50 or the pre agreed value of a used box of office paper. They, like you, took a shot.

Expecting quality, safety, insurance or security at a cheap price when they spell out what they will pay aforehand is unrealistic in today's world.

i wish you the best in your recovery effort and your best approach is to go after a gross negligence claim. if they bumbled as you say, you should be alright. without the ability to prove gross negligence or the ability to prove that they duped you about damage recovery limits, i dont know what options you have besides putting neg press out there. taking them to small claim court in shelter island might get them to pay you to go away.
