I don't know about the M-37s, but factory photos of the early (1946-1950 or so) Power Wagons clearly show the cad plated bolts on the bed, fenders and under the front bumberettes. The bed was clearly painted in pieces and put together after painyting. Lug nuts are also cad plated and not painted over.

Later 50s and 60s factory photos show the bed painted as an assembly (bolts are now body color). Lug nuts are now painted black.

Things changed over time and may have also been different between the Detriot and SanLeandro truck plants.
