A thought on Rally etiquette

I have watched Dave spend tons of time and money to put on this and other Rallys, and have had numerous discussions with him about the financial end of it. I feel that hosting a Rally is a wonderful thing that a dedicated group of guys have stepped forward to do for us. It takes an incredible amount of time and planning to pull one of these off, as well as a significant cash outlay.
Several times, Dave posted here on the Forum asking for a head count so he could purchase the right amount of food, order enough tee shirts, order enough dash plaques, etc. etc. He recieved commitments for 25 trucks, and about 50 attenders and purchased accordingly. I never made an accurate count, but I would say there were 12 to 15 trucks and about 30 people. When it looked like Dave was going to go deep into the hole, a bunch of very generous donations were made to help things even out.
So, I guess the long and short of it is, If you commit to attending a Rally, be aware that there are ramifications to your commitment. If you cancel at the last minute, keep in mind that the expenses associated with you are all spent and the host is stuck with it.
I am sure this rant is applicable to any Rally held anywhere.
Thanks for listening,
Tim
