I've done the sand paper trick before when I was rebuilding a oil pump on Farmall Super A tractor. I just didn't have anything big enough for this timing cover. As far as being overheated who knows? This is an ex air force crash and rescue truck that I bought from the GSA. It has a long and unknown past.
