The excess flows back into the pan. YMMV, I'm not sure of polys. /6 pumps are external, so is their relief valve...

Too much oil pressure can pump up hydraulic lifters making the valves float, or twist the pump drive shaft off, causing engine failure from subsequent loss of oil flow..

Or maybe it's just thick oil? Not 5-30, thin when cool, but straight 30?
