Also block the throttle open. Crank until each cylinder reaches it's highest reading, NOT any pre-decided number of hits.

40 psi due to bad rings would make blow-by like a steam engine, puff-puff-puff. I would suggest a whistle would be an appropriate accessory, they used to hook them into the exhaust manifold.

It just don't seem likely that all the rings stuck exactly the same amount in all cyls.
