1960 D100 Story - My Truck was here a second ago!
In 1974, I take my 1960 short bed Dodge D100 down to the local service station where I always went and know the old man and his son. The old man is gone and the kid lets me put it up on a scissors hoist for doing brake jobs and such. Intending to rotate the tires, I set the hoist up to my frame and lift the entire truck. I pull off one rear wheel, go to the other side and hunched over with the impact wrench... firrt firrt firrt, pull off the other rear wheel, turn away with the wheel, set it down and still hunched over, turn back.
NO TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aliens? Flash Back? Brain Fade?
I slowly look up just as the front bumper is silently touching down on the ground. Freaked completely out to see 4000lbs. of Dodge up in the air at about a 60° angle. Sooo, just then, who should be driving up... the OLD MAN! Quite excited to see my truck threatening his whole business, he is of course yelling obcenities. I grab a bungee cord, loop it up over the rear bumper and gently pull the Dodge back down and re-install one of the rear wheels while the kid holds it down. What a balancing act, Whoe! Poly 318s are Heavy!
