The other side to that is that parents don't discipline their children at all.

I have been coaching boy's soccer for several years. I set the expectation that young men will comport themselves on the field in my presence. Several parents have complained that I am inhibiting their childrens' "sense of self".

Many of these parents act like children themselves, wearing baggy jeans and have an omnipresent Ipod blasting in their ears and an annoyed look on their face even as I am speaking directly to them about issues concerning their child.

This isn't a problem with the children of Indian, Asian or Hispanic parents who haven't been here long enough to buy into modern child raising theory. They don't tolerate misbehavior, they are in control and their children respect their parents authority.
