The way I do it is to center punch a dimple in the middle of the rivet head. Take a small SHARP drill and srill into the rivet head through the shank but NOT through the other side. The easiest way is to take the thickness of the rivet head, crossmember and frame and mark that on the drill bit. Put a peice of tape there and you have a depth gauge. Then redrill with the largest drill closest to the rivets body size to the same depth(you'll feel it bottom) Then, if the head hasn't fallen off, hit it from the side with a cold chisel. Then get a straight punch and drive the rest through.

This is the best way I've found with the littlest damage to the pieces. Getting it centered is the key. Hope this helps, Kevin
