I agree with you. That is why I no longer use tape to enclose my wiring. Besides that tape comes off with time and make a real sticky mess.
The primary wires coming in form the battery are never bundled with other wires.
I use the shrink tubing in this manner. I take a 1 to 3 inch piece and place them every 6" to 1 foot depending on the situation. This is just to hold the wire bundles together. I use zip ties more a a wire rooting device. This allows me to turn corners and stop rubbing.
