But, sometimes breaking up a company has the opposite results. Look what happened after the dissolution of the Standard Oil Trust in 1911. The resulting thirty-four separate and distinct operating units branched out, grew, diversified, became stronger without all of the eggs in one basket, formed alliances with their former siblings, and even merged over time.
