It's usaully zinc or a zinc/aluminum alloy, one brand of which is ZAMAC, from the Zinc Aluminum Metal Alloy Company. Better metallurgy for the details of die casting.

The "aluminum brazing rod" is usually pure zinc, though there are some alloys sold too. The proper flux might help, if there is one...

But a pure machining repair is much more dependable for stripped threads.
