A few years back my wife was following me in her old BMW 318. I noticed her lights went off, then she pulled off the road.

I turned around quickly and asked if she was alright, told me she hit a deer.

Luckily, it was a big Chital she hit, and when those deer move, especially the doe's the keep their heads low. She hit the deer right in the head with the front bumper, so it knocked the deer away fron the car, and caused no damage, other than a pressed in kidney grill that I popped back in place.

I loaded the big Chital in the back of my truck, it only suffered a broken shoulder from the fall.

Roadkill, yes, but a shame to leave it lay, we made sausage and jerky. It is illegal to pickup a native whitetail, however.

Around here, I have see two reasons the deer stay near the paved roads.

1) Grazing the fresh grass that is untouched by cattle, sheep, or goats.

2) Game proof fencing on both sides of the road traps the animals.
