I wouldn't advise even thinking about a 7.3 unless the Power Wagon in question is one of the "big hood" W300s, in which case it's perfect, when coupled with the ZF 5 spd, 4.88 gears for 11.00R16s, 4.56s for 9.00s, or 4.10s for 7.50s.
I think a 6.2/6.5 would barely fit. It might require, for instance - a pusher electric fan in front of the radiator, remotely mounted air cleaner and/or oil filter, etc. A real PITA.
The 3.9L Cummins is perfect. The Ranger overdrive is essential to utilize this motor properly, or else a NV4500 5spd, which will bolt up to this motor with a Dodge 5.9 flywheel and bellhousing. A 6 spd would even be better to help that shift between direct and the gear just below it.
A nice 4 cyl like the Cummins fits well without doing anything exotic. And I'll bet that some of the "go fast" parts made for the 5.9 could help with the 3.9; I think up to 440 ft-lb could be squeezed out of it, safely.
