Looking at my McMaster catalog the lowest BREAKING strength that I see on a non-galvanized fiber core cable is 21,400 pounds. Now, to get the working load limit (WLL) you divide by 5, as they do for chain. The more common method of rating cable, however, is breaking strength. A good 6x19 or 6x37 1/2" cable in a premium grade (EIP) with a wire core (IWRC) will have a breaking strength of about 26,000 pounds, that would only have a WLL of about 5,200 pounds. The more strands (6x37) that you have the more flexible it is and therefore easier to work with and respool. Conversely, the fewer the strands (6x19) the more abrasion resistant it is. 7x25 is hard to find and a little more expensive, but probably the best choice for our trucks. Look in the yellow pages under chain/cable and you will find a local dealer near you. If you can bring the truck in sometimes people get excited and will be more helpful. Regards, Andy Tierney
