How about we define "good" and "bad" PW drums instead?

"Good" PW drums would be those that self-energize, the so-called Bendix pattern. The shoes "self-energize", that is, they tend to wedge themselves into the drum.

"Bad" PW and WC/M37 brakes are those designed in 1933 by Lockheed. They do not self-energize, thus relying solely on brute force against the shows to stop. And there ain't enough brute force to get the job done. An M37 is simply not safe above 45 MPH w/o disk brakes at least on the front axle. It takes longer to stop below 45 MPH than a lter PW with self-energizing brakes.

So, before making claims about a late PW braking good and someone else saying theirs stops like its on a greased skid, let's divide the trucks into the two catagories of drums brakes.
