Just a guess:
Test the cylinder pressures in each cylinder
Each cylinder should be in the 90 to 120 psi range
my guess is leaking rings, a blown head gasket,
tons of sludge on the pan, an over-filled crankcase,
a leaking fuel pump (dumping gas into the engine,
very possible on an old engine),
or something MUCH worse like a blown piston etc.
