Yes there is a tool for filling a tranny or a diff. It's called a gear lube pump. It sits on the ground by the rig with a pump and a hose to the gear box and you pump the gear grease up to the oil level hole, probably the one on the side that you mentioned. You can make a one time use filler with a short length of clear plastic hose, the soft flexable stuff you get at most hardware stores. Drill a hole in the lid of the quart jug cap, a little smaller than the hose diameter, then force the hose into the cap, put the cap on the oil jug, invert the jug and carefully squeeze the oil into the gearbox. Also alot of gearlube comes in a bottle ready made for filling a gearbox.
