About thirty minutes drive time south of the Zoo in Asheboro... Uwharrie National Forest is located about half way between Asheboro and Charlotte.
We found in the spring that it was a tossup between staying in Albemarle or Asheboro when it came to lodging (for those folks who didn't want to camp by the lake near the trailheads).
Also have the NC Pottery Center (and a whole lot of potters), the NC Aviation Museum, Delks' Surplus, AB Linn MV Parts, and M-Series Rebuild nearby.
