It will expand and loosen on the shaft, and the expansion will also loosen the screw.
It needs to be about red hot, I think the heat also changes the molecular composition of the rust, from red rust to smaller black oxide, helping loosen things.
Acetylene torches are handy things.
If you are moving things 1 1/2 inches, it's got to be close to coming off.
Your description sounds like the PTO end. There is a half-moon woodruff key in there, only an inch erso long.
