Here is what you need to do;
1) Push in the clutch and shift to neutral.
2) Let the clutch out
3) Rev the engine to match the transmission.
4) Push the clutch in and shift into the lower gear.

It is called double clutching as the clutch makes two cycles during a single shift.

I am not sure why Chris suggested that you need to slow the truck significantly. You can down shift like any manual transmission. The key is to match the engine speed to the transmission speed or road speed. If you downshift from 4th to 3rd at 20 MPH you do not need to rev the engine too much after you have shifted into Neutral. If you downshift from 4th to 3rd at 35 you will really need to rev the engine up to get the engine speed to match the transmission speed.

I have been driving my non synchro for 23 years. There are days when I can hit every shift on the way up or down the gears. Those are the days I smile There are other days which I can hardly hit any gear with out a grind or two. Do not ask me why.

The key word is practice.
