Maybe I was given bad information. I was told that Wix no longer manufacturers their sock type oil filters (not sic) (I did not choose the terminology, I am just repeating what is shown on the NAPA website). ;^)

I was told that Wix does not sell enough of them to warrant manufacturing their own. Instead, they contract with three separate companies to have them made, one in Mexico, and I forget where the other two are. I would not be surprised if one of the other two are in China.

This all as told to me by my NAPA dealer. When Todd started looking into the problem of the new filters being slightly oversized, I decided to also pursue it from my end. In doing so, I was thinking that it would hopefully keep Wix from thinking that Todd was just an isolated case.

It is kind of like the next project at work that I will be on. CNH needs tooling to assembly booms and dippers for their backhoe tractors. They solicited bids from one of the large systems and electrical companies in the business. That company came to my company to solicit a bid for the Engineering and design on the project. Neither they nor us actually do any build. We went to a machine shop to solicit a bid for the actual work in building our design. If they do not have a big enough boring mill, they might solicit a bid for that work from someone else. If we win the bid, chances are that we will contract out the detailing to a firm in India. Wix is doing basically the same thing.
