life is so much better after my nap yes a step bored cylinder " in a self energizing " meaning a single anchor pin at the top (no bottom anchor )the larger bore goes to the front shoe, as the pressure is applied to the shoe is greater from a larger diameter piston .as the primary shoe contacts the drum ,it attempts to turn or torque in the DIRECTION of the wheels travel, the primary shoe takes that energy and were the primary shoe connects to the secondary shoe ( rear shoe ) .at that point in combination with hydraulic pressure PLUS the Energy from the primary shoe ADDS extra "free" mechanical energy to stop the drum The smaller piston at the back will travel faster to 'compensate' or take up free play in the rear shoe so the brakes work 'quicker' or less travel of the pedal or i have this completly backwards ~ j
